1. Wal mursalaati'urfaa
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلْمُرْسَلَٰتِ عُرْفًۭا
By those [winds] sent forth in gusts
The Emissaries
1. Wal mursalaati'urfaa
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلْمُرْسَلَٰتِ عُرْفًۭا
By those [winds] sent forth in gusts
2. Fal'aasifaati 'asfaa
فَٱلْعَٰصِفَٰتِ عَصْفًۭا
And the winds that blow violently
3. Wannaashiraati nashraa
وَٱلنَّٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًۭا
And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]
4. Falfaariqaati farqaa
فَٱلْفَٰرِقَٰتِ فَرْقًۭا
And those [angels] who bring criterion
5. Falmulqiyaati zikra
فَٱلْمُلْقِيَٰتِ ذِكْرًا
And those [angels] who deliver a message
6. 'Uzran aw nuzraa
عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا
As justification or warning,
7. Innamaa too'adoona lawaaqi'
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌۭ
Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.
8. Fa izam nujoomu tumisat
فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ
So when the stars are obliterated
9. Wa izas samaaa'u furijat
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ
And when the heaven is opened
10. Wa izal jibaalu nusifat
وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ
And when the mountains are blown away
One of the many practices taught by Islam is that its followers should begin their activities in the name of God.
The character of this surah is that of a prayer. The prayer begins with praise of the One to whom our prayer is addressed.
